His curiosity about the importance and benefits of sleep inspired him to create an original clinical psych study to identify sleep patterns that will help facilitate self-improvement. This is also why he founded REM Reward, to bring awareness to the critical and underrated topic of sleep. Ryan highly recommends the book “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker.

In his spare time, Ryan loves playing basketball and teaching others how to become their best self through sleep, healthy eating, regular exercise, and community engagement.

Chidi is a high school student at University in Southfield, Michigan. He loves a good game of chess - despite being “extremely bad at it” - and an even better book. Due to the regular stress of doing everything he needed in order to get into a good college, he had been forgetting to really pay attention to sleep and how that affected him. His wake-up call was when his math teacher took a look at him and told him he needed to sleep more, something he didn't say to anybody else. That was when Chidi realized that even though high school was stressful, he shouldn't forget a key part of being human: sleep.

Joseph Chen - Director of Events

Joseph is a high school student at Whitney High School, in California. He loves to play sports like volleyball and the cello. A lack of sleep, present in almost all high school students, has led to him feeling less present and aware during the day. After taking a course in psychology, he figured out that he was not getting enough REM cycles and therefore was not getting proper sleep. He now wants to pursue a career as a neuroscientist or neurology major and eventually a doctor.
